Transformation of Disability Hackney into a Centre for independent living      (CIL) HACIL

In accordance with the life chances strategy of the Prime Minister Disability Hackney is in the process of transforming into a Centre for Independent living (CIL). In a world where people with disabilities (i.e. disabled people, the elderly and the carers) are seen as a burden to society empowering their lives sheds new hope. More over empowerment results in integrating them into society and puts them on par in terms of opportunities with their able bodied peers.

This transformation process requires the ability for support service providers to customise their services to the users. This is due to them having heterogeneous needs. The involvement of both adults with disabilities and parents of children with disabilities as community leaders of Disability Hackney is a significant stride towards being a Centre for independent living. We require the involvement of any supporter or advocate of our cause to reach out to a wider group of beneficiaries.
