Invitation to become a member
Disability Hackney invites every disabled person living in Hackney, to become a member. We also welcome people who are not disabled, but are interested in promoting the interests of disabled people.
What is Disability Hackney?
It was set up by Hackney Council, to assist disabled people to put forward their views about the right way to offer them the services that they need. These include health services and council services, including transport.
Disability Hackney is staffed and managed by disabled people and staff, management committee and members together have fought for better access to services such as health care, social services and housing. We have fought for:
Better access to public buildings and transport
Easier ways of applying for a freedom pass or blue badge
More accessible advice and advocacy services
More employment opportunities for disabled people
We also set up the Disability Reference Groups so that disabled people could speak directly with staff from Hackney Council and the National Health Service.
