What is contract compliance?
The UK government introduced the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) 2005 with Public Sector Duty (PSD) which requires the public sector to use their influence to ensure that contractors of public work promote the interests of disabled job seekers. Contract compliance therefore ensures that the government enters into public contracts with private sector organisations who give due attention and take action to ensure that the rights of people with disabilities are protected. This is similar to what is adopted in USA. Disability Hackney conducted the survey amongst registered contractors of London Borough of Hackney (LBH) who had less than 20 employees. The six who responded endorsed the use of Contract Compliance proposition (CCP) to promote the interest of disabled job seekers and employees. This study sheds light on the diversities in work places in general and equality for disabled people in particular. It also helps managers of public sector organisations to revamp their procurement policies and be complaint with the PSD requirement of the DDA 2005.
